Recent Training Certified New CRM Crisis Responders

The Smith County Chapter of Crisis Response Ministry (CRM) held a Crisis and Disaster Readiness Training (CDRT) on Saturday, November 11 at Grace Community Churches Old Jacksonville Hwy location.  Thirty-six CRM Crisis Responders and new Crisis Reserve Corps (CRC) members attended the four hour introductory training.
Dr. Dan Franklin, Founder of the Texas Crisis Resiliency Team and author of Disaster Spiritual Care: A Training Manual for Spiritual Care Providers, taught the introductory and advanced courses.  Dr. Franklin provided an Overview of Spiritual Care, Encouragement Through Listening, Loss and Grief, Spiritual First Aid and Spiritual Diversity. CRM CR Advanced members received a more detail overview of Grief and Loss, Death Notifications and Suicide.
The CDRT is the first step acquiring the knowledge and skills needed to assist crisis and disaster victims and survivors mitigate through the maze of recovery.
The previous night and Saturday afternoon Crisis Responders attended Advanced training conducted by CRM Crisis Responders and Smith County Chapter Director Doug Fields and Jim McKee, CRM East Texas Regional Director.
Crisis Response Ministry in East Texas offers three (3) levels of training and certification; Crisis Responder Advanced and Chaplain, Crisis Responder Basic and the new Crisis Reserve Corps.  CRC certification holders will be assigned support services responsibility during a deployment.  Our CRC will conduct administrative and logistical duties, freeing CRC Advanced and Basic members to focus on meeting the emotional and spiritual needs of disaster and crisis victims.
A special "Thank You" goes to Stephen Wicklieffe and Betty O'Maker of Grace Community Church, and to Jill Smith at KVNE for their encouragement and support.    CRM of East Texas is currently making plans and arrangements for the next certification courses that is expected to be held in January of next year.  For further information contact Jenny Fields, CRM Volunteer Coordinator at 903.220.0840 or jfields@cvstx.org.
